01    Public Safety

 

Pioneered stronger e-bike enforcement, including increased fines and confiscation — first in the region. Approved illegal camping regulations. City Council delegate to the League of California Cities; appointed by the League President to the Transportation, Communications, and Public Works Policy Committee's E-Bike Task Force, working on statewide legislation; and Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission representative as the South Bay Council of Governments delegate.

02     Fiscal Stewardship

 

Put taxpayers first as the ONLY Council Member to oppose both the sales tax increase and late night bonuses for upper management. Challenged unnecessary consultant spending including taxpayer funded advocacy for higher taxes and supported leaner government. Favored repairing City Hall and beach restrooms instead of committing taxpayer funds to multi-million dollar rebuilds. Voted against spending $100,000 on decorative planters and successfully eliminated $15,000 in design consultant costs. We need to fund essential services, demand value for every dollar, and exhaust practical alternatives before asking residents to pay more.

03    Small Business Advocate

 

Led efforts to make Hermosa Beach a place where small business can open faster, invest with confidence, and succeed. Cut red tape by advancing director level permit review, supported activating vacant commercial spaces, phased major fee increases over two years, and reduced outdoor dining and encroachment costs. Was the ONLY Council Member to support four full weeks of FREE Holiday Parking bringing more customers and economic activity downtown. Worked directly with local business owners to advocate for SB 84, which would preserve accessibility requirements while giving small businesses an opportunity to promptly correct violations before costly litigation. I understand that supporting local businesses means more than talking about it - it means lowering barriers, listening to owners, and taking action.

04     Protecting Hermosa Beach

​

Protected the qualities that make Hermosa Beach special - its neighborhoods, small town character, coastline, and public access. Was the ONLY Council Member who protected residential parking zones, Lot E parking, and free morning parking. Improved the Housing Element by listening to residents and stopping proposed building height increases. Fought to require short-term rentals to pay their fair share of taxes. Led the successful countywide effort to end Coastal Commission advertising waivers that commercialized public beaches and stood alone on the Council in opposing preferential "VIP" beach access. Sole candidate with early endorsements from the Sierra Club and California League of Conservation Voters. My commitment is clear to protect our character, preserve public access, and ensure growth and change respect the community residents love.

05     Accountable Leadership

 

Made City Hall more open, accessible, and accountable by protecting and restoring public comment time and residents' right to be heard. Reinstated regular community forums  that gave residents direct access to City Leadership and consistently promoted civility and professionalism in public service. I understand that effective leadership also means respecting every colleague on the dais, listening to different perspectives, and working through disagreements to build consensus and deliver results. I've championed measurable fiscal discipline by asking tough questions and treating every taxpayer dollar as a public trust. Accountable leadership means listening openly, collaborating respectfully, deciding independently, and working with everyone to more Hermosa Beach forward.
